Criticism -- How to give and take!
Here is a nice article on How to Give Kind Criticism, and Avoid Being Critical
Response for the article is great with good visitor suggestions

Response for the article is great with good visitor suggestions

One technique a visitor mentioned: P-C-P
- First, “P” - Praise the effort, progress or results, no matter how far from the desired one. Find something that you can be laudatory about. This is critical, because it lowers the receiver’s automatic defenses and conditions them to be more receptive to what you have to say next.
- Then, “C” - criticize - deliver the criticism with a constructive voice, using Leo’s great techniques above.
- Then “P” - Praise again and segue into an acknowledgment of the effort put in and express your excitement to share in future growth.
The P-C-P sandwich is an amazingly effective technique and it can really work to turn potentially explosive situations into energized and constructive ones.

2 Classic Rockers, 1 Night = Awesome
Last night we went to see Bryan Adams and George Thorogood at Gibson Amphitheatre (LA). Both of them rocked...it was awesome. Bryan once again proved why he is the best thing Canada produced in a long time (after Rush) ;) George did his no BS rocking and he has a great stage presence.

Pause... Reflect...
- We are in such a hurry to grow up, and then we long for our lost childhood.
- We make ourselves ill earning money, and then spend all our money on getting well again.
- We think so much about the future that we neglect the present, and thus experience neither the present nor the future.
- We live as if we were never going to die, and die as if we had never lived.

Getting Serious About Happiness

Drawing on his research on happiness, Csikszentmihalyi has three general pieces of advice:
Be attuned to what gives you genuine satisfaction. Although many people assume that popular activities like watching TV are enjoyable, their own reports generally indicate that they feel more engaged, energetic, satisfied and happy when doing other things.
Study yourself. To better understand their own happiness, Csikszentmihalyi says, people should systematically record their activities and feelings every few hours for a week or two. In recording your observations, try to focus on how you actually feel, rather than what you think you ought to be feeling or what you expect to feel. Afterwards, note the high points, particularly, and the low ones. Then try to adjust how you spend time according to your findings.
Take control. Repairing unhappy conditions requires active effort. People often assume external conditions will change for the better or let chance determine their response. That's a mistake. "Get control," Csikszentmihalyi says. When things aren't right, "you have to put in the same effort you would if your business were in trouble. Just as markets move, life changes too."

MC Rove
From USA Today:
Karl Rove, the powerful political strategist known as "Bush's Brain," admits he's a "practicing philatelist" before he breaks it down with the improv maestros from Who's Line is it Anyway? at a banquet in Washington.
Below you'll find a selection from the duet, during which a comedian sang while Rove danced in front of the nation's top politicos and broadcast journalists:
Rove: I'm M.C. Rove.
Rapper: He can't be beat because he's so white from his head to his feet but he will rap it when you give him a chance.
Look at him move, doing the rapping dance. That's true, he's a dancing resident. He is a sidekick to the president.

2 quotes about 'SELF'

Transformation
The transformation of the world is brought about by the transformation of oneself, because the self is the product and a part of the total process of human existence.
To transform oneself, self-knowledge is essential, without knowing yourself there cannot be transformation.
-- J. Krishnamurti
Greatest Unknown
Sometimes we as humans give up our sense of reasoning for a sense of belonging. Often times causing our mind to shuttle between what is wrong and right. We change who we are; our thoughts, our beliefs and even ourselves. Then there comes a night when the changes go full circle and we feel like we woke up from a dream, not knowing why this has all gone around. Of the many unknowns known to us, the greatest unknown maybe our knowledge of ourselves.

2 Lawyers
Two attorneys went into a diner and ordered two drinks. Then they produced sandwiches from their briefcases and started to eat.
The owner became quite concerned and marched over and told them, "You can't eat your own sandwiches in here!"
The attorneys looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders and then exchanged sandwiches.

Woodcutter and God!
One day, while a woodcutter was cutting a branch of a tree above a river, his axe fell into the river. When he began crying, God appeared.
"Why are you crying?" The woodcutter told Him that he had dropped his axe into water.
God went down into the water and reappeared with a golden axe.
"Is this your axe?", God asked.
"No"
God again went down and came up with a silver axe. "Is this your axe?", God asked.
"No".
God went down again and came up with an iron axe. "Is this your axe?", God asked.
"Yes".
God was pleased with the man's honesty and gave him all the three axes. The woodcutter went home happily.
One day while he was walking with his wife along the river, his wife fell into the river. When he began crying, God appeared.
"Why are you crying?"
"My wife has fallen into water."
God went down into the water and came up with Jennifer Lopez. "Is this your wife?", God asked.
"Yes", he said.
God was furious, "You cheat! Now I am going to curse you......"
The woodcutter quickly said, "Forgive me My Lord. It is a misunderstanding. If I say NO to Jennifer Lopez, you will come up with Catherine Zeta Jones. If I also say NO to her, you will finally come up with my wife and I will say YES. Then you will give all the three to me. I am a poor man. I will not be able to look after all the three. So that's why I said YES!"

Wireless power...finally..almost there!
I was always thinking...why can't this be done and how useful it would be to have wireless power for travellers, mobile users,.. it here..almost..according to this article from BBC
US researchers have outlined a relatively simple system that could deliver power to devices such as laptop computers or MP3 players without wires.
The concept exploits century-old physics and could work over distances of many metres.
Instead of using acoustic vibrations, the team's system exploits the resonance of electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic radiation includes radio waves, infrared and X-rays.
This is so exciting :o)

Velcro ...who cant live without?
Anousheh Ansari recently went to the Space Station… she was the first female/iranian space tourist. She was also the first person to blog from space...here are some interesting bits from her her blog entry Thank God for Velcro
Here are some excerpts..
http://spaceblog.xprize.org/
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/09/our-call-from-space.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMghHs-DwvM
Here are some excerpts..
- When you open a bag of soft food like yogurt or soup, if you are not really really careful, small yogurt bubbles or soup bubbles start floating around and then you can catch them with your spoon. But if you try to catch them too fast, one bubble hits your spoon and becomes 10 smaller bubbles and now you have to catch ten of them!
- I guess the closest thing to moving in weightlessness is floating in water. But there is a major difference. In water when you move your arms and legs, you move… in here you can move your arms and legs all you want, but you are not going anywhere.
- So God invented Velcro for this very purpose… to keep things in place in weightlessness. Everything here has Velcro attached to it…even your pants have Velcro strips. I thought things could be secured if I put them in my pockets and closed the zipper. Well they are secured until you open the zipper and take one out… here comes the other small items flying out..

just 'words'..
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Nelson Mandela

The Myth of Prodigy and Why it Matters
Here is a very interesting article on The Myth of Prodigy and Why it Matters by Malcolm Gladwell which I think gives great insight into how to raise kids..

Some of the interesting tit-bits..
Some of the interesting tit-bits..
- A study of 200 highly accomplished adults found that just 34 percent had been considered in any way precocious as children
- What a gifted child is, in many ways, is a gifted learner. And what a gifted adult is, is a gifted doer. And those are quite separate domains of achievement.
- A study comparing French-speaking Swiss children, who are taught to read early, with German-speaking Swiss children, who are taught to read later but show far fewer learning problems than their French-speaking counterparts.
- The young Mozart’s prowess can be chalked up to practice, practice, practice. Compelled to practice three hours a day from age three on, by age six the young Wolfgang had logged an astonishing 3,500 hours — “three times more than anybody else in his peer group. No wonder they thought he was a genius.” So Mozart’s famous precociousness as a musician was not innate musical ability but rather his ability to work hard, and circumstances (i.e., his father) that pushed him to do so.

Gekko: What's worth doing is worth doing for money.
Gekko: Greed captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Bionic Image Labling from Google
Google Image Labeler uses a ESP game that makes this otherwise enormous task an interesting and much quicker and more importantly combines machine and human intelligence.
Basically, you will be paired with an anonymous partner and guess label for random images and you score when there is a label match (you won't know who the partner is and what s/he has guessed.
If you have already played the 'game', here is a bit from the presentation that was funny - 2 people had a match when shown the image of G.Bush and guess what they both had a match -- "YUCK" ;-)
Within one year, google will be sending out checks to the top 1,000 or so players.

Is this the way the greatest show on earth be remembered?

Even the best of the best have the worst of the worst moments!!!
Behind Zizou's Moment of Madness (Time)
Federer, the zen master on grass..
On the day before the men's final Roger Federer, with all due disrespect, was asked if he was scared of the swashbuckling Rafael Nadal.
Does he get in your face? This mighty muscles bit, does he intimidate you?
"No," Federer, a seven-time Grand Slam champion and the world's No. 1-ranked player, said. "I see 10 percent of what he does. I turn around quickly."
...
Late on Saturday night, Robert and Lynette Federer were dining in Wimbledon Village at the Indian restaurant Rajdoot. Two stories above the raucous pub crowds, they shared a bottle of Shiraz.
Animated tennis conversation dominated the small room. But when one diner loudly observed that, following Sunday's Wimbledon final Federer would be 1-7 against Rafael Nadal, Mr. Federer coughed loudly and glared. After an awkward silence, the ambient buzz continued.
After paying the check, Mr. Federer stopped by the table and asked genially, "You don't think Roger will win? You might be surprised."
Well, I was not surprised after seeing the match.

Most Optimistic Country in the World
India top AC Nielsen's Global Consumer Confidence index with a score of 127.
The global average was 92.
Forbes Magazine's Rich List last year placed India eighth in terms of the number of billionaires. The number of millionaires trebles every three years. Today, street peddlers pack cellphones.
The Times of India's Washington-based foreign editor, Chitanand Rajghatta, in a piece on the Indian diaspora, notes that there are around 20 to 30 million Indian nationals living in some 180 countries, "give or take a million or two who are in various transit lounges".
